Setback #2

Yes, you read right, my 2nd setback!

I did not want to flat iron my hair until I got my next touch-up so I went to a salon to get my hair roller set and everything that can go wrong went wrong.

First, the young lady who was shampooing my hair had acrylic nails that needed to be filled so my hair kept getting caught in her nails, after it happened the second time I asked for someone else to shampoo my hair. I guess the new girl was not pleased that she had to get up to shampoo and condition my hair because she was very rough; I constantly had to tell her she was hurting my scalp.

When that ordeal was over and it was time to get my roller set done, detangling was a nightmare. First, I had to tell her which comb to use since she immediately reached for a fine-tooth comb, then she wanted to detangle from the roots. I instantly stopped her and directed her to detangle from the ends go up, something I had to repeat with each section, I started wondering if I was speaking a language she couldn’t comprehend. I lost a lot of hair by the time she had finished roller setting my hair and the roller set looked like crap, by this time I was pissed and fed up and just wanted to get everything over with.

I sat under the dryer and hoped for the best but in my heart I knew the roller set was a lost cause, I knew I would have to do the one thing I did not want to do in the first place, flat iron my hair. When the rollers were taken out my hair looked like I air dried it rather than roller set it. When she was about to flat iron my hair I made sure the temperature was not more than 300 and I insisted she did no more than two passes. It was just my luck that by the time she finished flat ironing my hair the rain was falling.

I had to deal with all that drama and still wasn’t able to enjoy my hair. When I got home I took off a little more than an inch because my hair looked and felt so thin. I need to take off some more but I hope to clip little by little until my ends look nice and full again. I do not want to cut four or five inches all at once so when I do my next touch-up I will see how my ends look and proceed from there, hopefully I will be able to take off no more than an inch or two at most at a time.

I am washing my hands of hairdressers; even after my first setback I was hoping to find someone I can occasionally go to but two setbacks two years in a row is a sign from above!

    1. I went to Hair an Such, I do have the worst luck with salons in Trinidad but 2015 is going to be different. I should be able to do a proper roller set by now so one of my hair goals for next year is to learn to roller set like a boss :)

  2. Girl I was in the same boat as well September for my birthday... I went to a new hairdresser and the lady just kept on cutting despite I told her many times to stop and worse I was turned away from the mirror smh. From that touch up at that salon my hair became incredibly thin and lost body but I'm working on that now. I hate reading stories like this because I honestly feel that hairdressers should know better. I really do hope you recover from this, and maybe it is best to leave the cutting until further to see how well you can repair it so u don't ave to lose that much of ur length. Wish you all the best chica!

  3. Oh no, Candice! I really hate that you had to go through another Nightmare at the Salon!! It seems to be really hard to find a hair dresser who truly cares, is knowledgeable, and is passionate about what they do. I agree with Abbi, I think you should hold off on another trim for a while. The damage may not be as bad as you think. Your story has reminded me why I have not visited a salon in almost 2 years.

Merry Christmas and I hope you hare able to enjoy the holiday! :)

    1. Merry Christmas to you too Andrea, I don't intend to let something like hair prevent me from enjoying this holiday, I'll be too busy eating myself silly! :)

  4. Wow. So sorry about this Candice. Hairdressers honestly should be better and it's frustrating when they aren't. Your hair will grow, thank God.
Meanwhile, don't do anything too drastic just yet.
