June 2014 Relaxer Touch-Up

Wednesday 18th June 2014 at 14 Weeks Post

I was not very patient with my hair while detangling this stretch, a long weekend was upon us and I had a lot of activities planned so I decided to end my stretch rather than risk another setback due to impatience. For this touch up I followed my usual steps before using the Affirm FiberGuard Conditioning Cream Relaxer System, which is to

·       Pre-part my hair in sections from ear to ear leaving out my entire hair line as I do this area last

·       Base my scalp and hairline using the Affirm FiberGuard Preservo Strengthening Serum and petroleum jelly

·       Protect my previously relaxed ends using castor oil followed by petroleum jelly

·       Set my timer for 15 minutes

Applying my relaxer took less than 12 minutes from start to finish. I never use a comb to apply my relaxer or to smooth; everything is done with my hands. One other thing I don’t think I’ve ever mention is that I change gloves at least once while applying the relaxer, it helps to limit the amount of relaxer getting on my previously relaxed ends due to me holding/touching my hair. Once I washed out the relaxer I took the following steps,
·       Apply a mix of Affirm FiberGuard Sustenance Fortifying Treatment and Affirm 5 in 1 Reconstructor as my mid-relaxer protein step for 5 minutes

·       Neutralized three times using the Affirm FiberGuard Normalizing Shampoo

·       Deep conditioned with HASK Argan Oil Intense Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment for 30 minutes

·       Wrapped my hair in a t-shit for 30 minutes

·       Applied my leave-in, Matrix Biolage Daily Leave-in Tonic and some Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum then detangled

·       Applied Kerastase Fibre Architecte and blow dried on the lowest heat setting

The following day I flat ironed my hair using my Sedu Revolution 1 inch flat iron, I used Chi Silk infusion as my heat protectant. My hair came out bone straight even though I only made 1 pass with the flat iron set to 275. Take a look at my results

June 2014 Relaxer Touch Up
Before Trim
The picture is not the best quality, I blame the photo-taker-outer! :D

I had to go out so I trimmed my ends after I got home later that night. My hair is coming along well and I am hoping to claim full APL by my next touch-up which should be in September or November. My personal rule when relaxer stretching is nothing less than 12 weeks so a touch-up could happen anytime thereafter. This has been my shortest stretch since starting my hair journey and I have to admit that doing my own touch-ups is getting less appealing, I would really love to find someone I can trust to do my hair.

  4. I love your reveal. Your hair looks very healthy. You did a great job on the trim. I've self-relaxed before and it's not appealing whatsoever. I am salon relaxed and love it (most days).

    1. At time nightmares and salons go hand in hand but I'm hopeful, there are a few gems out there.

  6. Looking good! It turned out great and your ends look fab. I used to use Affirm when I was bleached blonde and still going to the salon. It was a great relaxer for texlaxing even back then.
